All students must bring to class a two copies of your typed up and printed out Photo poem. The print outs must be done before class, and will be graded, based on originality, diction, vividness of description, quality of metaphoric language, and meeting requirements of the assignment.
The poem must be at least 20 lines unless it is a sonnet. It must contain at least two instances of figurative language.
It must contain a vivid description of something in the photo.
The poem should not be an actual description of the photo but suggested by the photo.... the journey, the feeling, the experience, the story of the character (who might not be present in the picture but the person from whose perspective we see).
STADIUM PICTURE PEOPLE:
Write a second poem that in second person that tells the story of a person in the crowd. You, the poet, must pick that actual single person out. Tell the story of that person, who is part of the crowd but also an individual. They are dressed a certain way, standing near or apart from other people (friend group, boyfriend, girlfriend, friend they have betrayed/helped/embarrassed/argued with/laughed with.... this doesn't have to be a focus but you must know who they are with) .... They have a secret or a conflict in life (doesn't have to be dark): What is it? Reveal who they are and tell their secret or their story..... Write in third person. ... poem should not be more than six lines.... do not rhyme....
Part 2: Create a metaphor for the stadium...or crowd .... or game.... and weave it into a five line poem:
Stadium lights like.....
Chanting like .....
Loud as .....
