https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B_DGLjFfbYQndnhUYW9SNHFkZzQ?usp=sharing Final Deadline is this week. As we close pages please keep a few things in mind:
YEARBOOK COPY Sports: Always use PAST TENSE in copy. Even the spring season will be over when the book comes out. You can say: “Bill was leading the team in hits when the Tesoro went to press in April.” Scores are written in numerals, such as “In a 7-6 game …. “ Season records are written in numerals. “The basketball team finished 12-8 after dropping its final game.” The section we play in is Sacramento-San Joaquin, which can be shortened in all references as Sac-Joaquin. Do not use an apostrophe with girls team or boys team. Do not cheerlead or editorialize (offer opinion). If you feel the need to praise the team, quote someone who will do it for you. Names: It's full name on first reference and first name only on second reference. CHECK NAMES WITH THE NAME CHECK FUNCTION UNDER THE EDIT TAB AT THE TOP OF THE PAGE. QUOTES Only quote that which is quote worthy. Do not include quotes like: "We had fun," she said. "The team bonded like a family," Sam said. Always use SAID. Commas go inside the quotation marks. If it is a two-sentence quote the attribution goes in the middle. "The worst part of the season was losing to El Camino on a buzzer beater," Jeff said. "But the best moment was going into their gym and beating them on a buzzer beater." OPINION: In journalism, we call inserting opinion as editorializing. DON'T DO IT. Do not wish anyone luck or say how great they are. Instead, show us. People you quote can offer opinions. CAPTIONS: Captions are normally two sentence. The first sentence is present tense. It tells what is happening in the photo without stating the obvious. The second sentence provides background detail that you cannot get from the picture. This is past tense. It could be a quote or a statistic or other background. This week is the final deadline for the yearbook. All pages must go away and we will not see them again until the book comes out. There can be no extensions. This email was sent to all staffers and families: Hello All Yearbook Staffers and Families, This week is the final deadline for yearbook. That means all pages have to be 100 percent finished and submitted and we will not see those pages again until the book comes out. This is going to be a hard-working, stressful week but it is all going to be worth it when we open an awesome book in May! I will be staying after school every day, usually until very late. (Tomorrow afternoon, too, for anyone who wants to stop by.) I will be closing the last pages next weekend (minus index and handful of late pages that close next Monday night.). All staff members are required to participate and help make the book. All staff members must complete their own spreads in time for the pages to be proofed and corrections made. It is helpful for staffers to come to work nights, as homework, family and other obligations permit. They can also work from any computer with an internet connection. Proofing pages today I noticed lots of little mistakes that the writer could have avoided and anybody could find and flag with a note. We need all students to work together on the whole book, as much as they can. Students final grades will depend on accuracy, including feedback we get on the book in May. It is in their interest to get someone to look over their pages. On my teacher web site, I have made a list of things to look for in editing and completing pages. I will continue to update the site over the weekend and through next week. Staffers are required to read all content on rioape.weebly.com and keep checking back. After the last pages close next Monday, students will have a lot of time to work on other subjects. And, I hope in May we get to hold one of the best yearbooks the school has had. Thank you all. Mr Mahoney For all spreads fill in topic and subtopic in folios. So, for example, left folio will be:
