For Monday continue to read One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest. The book must be read by next Monday. You must have read the entire book to write the exam.
For Monday read T.S.Eliot's The Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock
Write a well crafted (written and revised) stanza about a place and weather on the model of TS Eliot's stanza about fog in The Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock. Use strong verbs and vivid imagery.
The yellow fog that rubs its back upon the window-panes,
The yellow smoke that rubs its muzzle on the window-panes,
Licked its tongue into the corners of the evening,
Lingered upon the pools that stand in drains,
Let fall upon its back the soot that falls from chimneys,
Slipped by the terrace, made a sudden leap,
And seeing that it was a soft October night,
Curled once about the house, and fell asleep.
In class Monday we read My Last Duchess. See me for make up if you missed class.
We read a list poem. For homework write a poem in which you list the contents of, say, your backpack, desktop, desk drawer, purse, wallet, glove box, etc..Be specific and actually limit yourself to what is there. The trick is in your word choices and how you order the items. Use concrete language. But then use figurative language for one and only one item.
Read for homework: Wordsworth's I wandered Lonely as a Cloud. Write one page on how the poem uses figurative language to reveal the power of memory.
On Tuesday we will rehearse Much Ado.
