Monday: Bring an essay or easily accessible electronic version of your essay to class. You may not access your essay on your phone. Have the essay out or open before the bell rings. We will work through a few final checks on the essay, focusing on formatting and common problems. This is not peer editing. Your final essay is due Monday night at 11 p.m.
Have read Act 3 of Macbeth for discussion in class Monday.
You can still get a ticket to Macbeth on Tuesday. Pay with cash or check at the financial office. There are very few seats left. All students must see a performance of Macbeth, either in person or on a screen, and reflect on how the performance makes an interpretation of the text.
For those of you not attending the play:
Available for free on youtube:
1978 Royal Shakespeare version starring Ian McKellen and Judy Dench, considered one of the great interpretations (but dark, I mean, literally dark) in the video
2013 performance at the Globe Theater in London
Additional videos of stage performances are available. Film versions of the play are available through streaming services: Amazon, Netflix, etc. You may enjoy the R-rated (nudity and violence) Roman Polanski version from the early '70s, Orson Wells' very witch-dominated version from the 1950s, or the moody Michael Fassbender adaptation of 2015 (you'll have to rent that one).
